Course content/description: the course will concentrate on academic prose and will review the form and structure of typical academic texts (e.g. essays, seminar papers, abstracts, critiques). This could include discussing the principles of paragraph structure, essay layout, thesis statements and topic sentences. Students will have the opportunity to formulate their ideas in writing and receive feedback both from the instructor and from fellow students. Wherever necessary, language issues (e.g. grammar, vocabulary and expression, punctuation, spelling, sentence construction, style, cultural elements) will also be addressed.
Course requirements: regular attendance, active participation and completion of all home assignments. Students will be evaluated by means of continuous assessment (various in-class writing tasks as well as home assignments). |
