Over the past several decades, there has been criticism of discourses on Japan and the Japanese in a variety of fields. In this class, we will discuss the critiques of discourses about Japan that have been made across disciplines such as sociology, history, psychology, and education.
This course will discuss acacdemic Eurocentrism and critical teaching of the Japanese culture. It will also partially touch on related theoretical background.
