Globalization is a heavily debated issue of our times, also the Social Sciences, and in particular Sociology, have invested a considerable amount of intellectual energy in order to describe and explain the societal dimension of this process. Is globalization leading to a more homogeneous and standardized social order, or is more heterogeneity a consequence? Are we witnessing the emergence of a world society with a proper economic, political, social and cultural order? The course will take up this sociological debate in order to present and discuss different theories that describe different aspects and dimensions of globalization, and explain related processes and their consequences. The course will deal with economic, political, and social aspects of globalization, but special emphasis will be placed on the political cultural dimension of globalization. |
