As in many academic disciplines research is published in English, students may be asked to read and also write academic texts in English although this is not their subject.
Contents:
In this course students are therefore introduced to strategies that help them understand and write English academic texts. Background information and exercises focus on the following areas:
- English as a Foreign Language (vocabulary, grammar, style)
- academic genres (Which are there? Why is it important to know them? How can they be used to improve reading and writing routines?)
- writing process (orientation, structuring, building a rationale, writing, revising, editing)
- digital tools (where to find them and how to assess their usefulness)
Goals:
In each class small exercises allow students to acquire and reflect on academic reading and writing strategies. |
