Course Objectives:

This course will cover the fundamentals of medical terminology, reviewing the construction of medical terms that are commonly used in hospitals. Vocabulary and concepts involving human anatomy, physiology, pathology, diseases, diagnostics, therapeutics, research and ethics will be presented and discussed. A further goal is to improve communication skills with English-speaking patients.

Open to all students who are interested.

This course takes place at the Lehr- und Lernzentrum, Seminarraum 1, 1. OG, KL 159. (Universitätsklinik).

English language skills at the B2 level (approx. 240 class hours).

Obligation to attend all sessions including mandatory attendance for the first session. If students fail to attend the first session and do not have an excused absence, they will automatically lose their place in the language course.

Additionally, students are only allowed to miss 2 complete sessions for the entire semester.

Active participation is required for successful completion of the class.

Taking the final exam is mandatory.

Acquisition of ECTS credits:

Meeting the requirements mentioned above.

50% of the course will be in-class sessions, 50% will be held via moodle. Detailed informtaion about the course structure will be given in the first session.

Passing the final exam.

This also applies to the acquisition of the certificate for the course. There are no certificates of attendance.
