This will be a hands-on class with a telecollaborative component, as we shall regularly communicate and share ideas on using digital tools and task-based lesson plan with students at Shien University in Taipeh. Digital technologies are now regarded as useful tools for language learning. The question is, however, in what way these tools can be used to provide a basis for new and flexible (innovative) learning scenarios in the language classroom. The seminar will investigate samples of task-based lessons, some making use of digital materials and tools and establish criteria for innovative and motivating classroom practice in this area. The theoretical principles of second language acquisition with a focus on Task-Based Learning, authenticity and output-orientation as well as learner autonomy will be discussed and samples of good practice identified. As said, the seminar will be run on a “hands-on principle”. Students will not simply be taught but given the chance to develop and occasionally test sample tools as part of small-scale case studies. |
