The reality of anthropogenic climate change has an impact across all spheres of life and disciplines. It has also given rise to the genre of so-called ‘cli-fi’ which, aside from producing apocalyptic disaster narratives, tackles issues of risk management, denial and inertia. In this class we will discuss ‘cli-fi’ across different genres, including prose fiction, drama, and film, and address questions such as: What does fiction have to offer with regard to communicating climate change? What are problems and possibilities of affecting the reader/audience?
