This e-learning discussion-based seminar explores the nature and causes of wars in the 20th and 21st centuries and investigates the potential for resolving conflicts and building peace. By examining a wide range of literature and film on the subject, students acquire a deeper understanding of contemporary conflicts and their impact on society and on the refugee situation. Further, students acquire tools for understanding conflict resolution, peace-making processes, reconciliation and restorative justice. On the syllabus are texts/films by Hemingway, Orwell, Weir, Spielberg, Loach, Burns, O’Brien, Junger, Yazbek, Pearlman, and Hedges. |
