Climate change presents us with one of the biggest moral and political challenges of our time. So far, however, the industrialized countries have failed to deal with this challenge. What ought to be done in such a situation? Due to a variety of reasons normative ethics has great difficulties in giving a clear-cut answer to this question. Climate change is connected with many problems ethics is ill prepared to solve, such as the relation between individual and collective responsibility, questions of global justice, problems of our obligations to future generations, and the problems of adequately dealing with risks. In the seminar, we will study these problems and in this way approach solutions to the urgent question of what ought to be done in the face of climate change.

This lecture is offered primarily for all students interested in fulfilling the requirements of module II of the certificate 'Education for Sustainable Development'.
If this course is not suitable for you in E3 but you wish to attend to fulfill the requirements of module II of the certificate or because of personal interest, please send us an e-mail: zertifikat-bne@uni-due.de.
Students from RUB may acquire the certificate 'Education for Sustainable Development' as well.
