Entwicklungsprobleme und -strategien in Afrika - Einzelansicht

The seminar provides an analysis of developmental challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa, and of selected national and international strategies to tackle such challenges. The seminar will not present an overview of extant theoretical approaches for explaining ‘African’ developmental performance but rather consist in discussing selected and quite specific developmental aspects such as land rights, industrialization, taxation or social protection. By combining relevant theoretical approaches with the study of empirical cases we aim is to get a better idea of how a combination of international, national and local factors facilitate and block development and how this varies across Africa. Each session will include a reflection about strategic consequences.

Das Seminar wird entweder in deutscher oder englischer Sprache durchgeführt. Prüfungsleistungen für IBEP-Studierende können in jedem Fall in deutscher Sprache erbracht werden.

The seminar will be held online, and combine asynchronous and synchronous interaction and learning formats.

The first session will be held Monday 12 April 2021. Access to first video conference will be communicated via e-mail lists of relevant study programmes.

MA IBEP students write a seminar paper that counts as module exam for both this seminar and the lecture on African politics. The topic and RQ of the seminar paper must refer to the themes discussed in class (seminar or lecture). Within the seminar paper you will be asked to include one section which discusses policy transfer or strategic consequences.
