Global Governance and Development discusses basic theories and concepts of global governance, with a special emphasis on developing regions and their participation in global governance processes. This lecture reviews both state and non-state approaches to resolve common problems of mankind in different issue areas. We will first focus on theoretical and conceptual issues, but also discuss from a historical perspective how a (neoliberal) system of global governance was gradually established. How do we understand global governance? How do different forms of governance and actors contribute to the provision of global governance? What is the role of developing regions and actors from developing countries in global governance? We finally move on to examine specific areas of global governance, including the different dimensions of sustainable development, the world economy and the environment. The lecture will mainly be held in person, but there might also be virtual sessions. |
