Over the past several decades, there has been criticism of discourses on Japan and the Japanese in a variety of fields. In this class, we will discuss the critiques of discourses about Japan that have been made across disciplines such as sociology, history, psychology and education.
In this course, the themes will be "homogeneous nation", "collectivism", and "national seclusion".
