Audiences, artists, authors, editors, events, prizes, publishing houses, print and digital books, poetry slams, social media… The list of players involved in making literature is endless. This class will introduce students to the concept of the literary marketplace, exploring the different constellations of actors and actions that together makeup the world of literature. Students will gain insight into the economic and social impact of literature as we examine the hype around literary awards and prizes. We will look specifically at marketplaces created around, for, and by immigrant, migrant, and refugee writers and artists.
This class will allow students to improve their Inquiry & Analysis, Quantitative Literacy, and Reading and Written Communication competences. |
