Kommentar: | Nowadays Bioinformatics is an important field of biology. New experimental technologies allow the generation of huge amounts of complex data, that often requires specialized bioinformatic tools for analysis. Plenty of free and open-source data analysis tools already exists, which raises two main issues. First, the proper program has to be found, second many programs are implemented as command line tools or package for languages like R or python, that have to be mastered. The programming language R, initially developed as an environment for statistical computing has become a powerful tool for processing biological data. The objective of this module is to give a general understanding of programming and the ability to use command line tools. The first lectures will give a short introduction to the operating system Linux. The basic principles of programming are taught with R with examples from biological problems. The course ends with a written exam. The lessons build upon each other, therefore a regular attendance is essential. The course takes place Wednesdays from 10-12 am in room S03S03A05 and starts October 11th. The language is English. BA Biology and MedBio students obtain 3 Credits in E1. |
