Kommentar: | In this lecture we will examine texts from the beginnings of European colonization in North America to 1867, when the remaining British colonies in North America formed the Dominion of Canada. We will thus focus on texts that today are referred to as “American” and “Canadian” as well as texts originally written in English, French, Spanish, Latin, etc. (you won’t need to be able to speak all of these languages in order to take part in this lecture). The scope of the lecture will lead us to question the clear-cut labellings and categorizations of traditional literary historiography and to establish surprising connections between seemingly vastly different texts and literary traditions. |
