Kommentar: | There is always war in Afghanistan – or so it seems. In the summer of 21, after the Taliban takeover, Afghanistan was the center of attention for a short while again. Throughout the last decades, Afghanistan has gained sad notoriety as one of the most brutal and war-torn countries in the world. There have been many people who find the country fascinating, travelled there and wrote about it. In this seminar, we will have a look at the historical relationship between the British Empire and Afghanistan, and examine – mainly journalistic – travel books about the country, and how narrating Afghanistan changed with every new war in the region. A brief introduction to Afghanistan and its culture will be part of the seminar as well. Literature will be made available in our first session. |
