This course explores central philosophical questions surrounding the ordinary and pervasive phenomenon of love, including: (1) the nature of love, and what makes it different from other attitudes; (2) whether love can ever be said to be justified or unjustified; (3) the value of love; (4) whether we are sometimes under an obligation to love someone else.
This course will be a seminar taught in English, and will consist mainly in discussion on assigned readings. Active engagement with the texts and participation in class are essential. |
