Emotions are a fascinating subject which has attracted researchers from a range of fields, including philosophy, psychology, sociology and linguistics. This course will investigate the complex connections between linguistic resources and emotional experiences. Firstly, the course will deal with basic definitions of emotions and their structure and with the question whether emotions are universal or culturally determined. Distinguishing between emotional talk and emotion talk, the course will then focus on means of expressing and describing emotions in different genres. |
