This seminar deals with the social institutions and socioeconomic changes as well as modernization in the contemporary Chinese society. By connecting with sociological theories, we will elaborate on the Hukou-reform, the Guanxi-system, social welfare and demographic change as well as ageing, deepening our understanding on social transition in modern China.
