   Kommentar:

The lecture series "Computational Biophysics" is a course of 2 hours-per-week (6 credit points) covering selected topics from molecular biophysics to population dynamics. It also treats theoretical tools that are essential to the description of complex biological systems, such as networks and inference based on MaxEnt and Bayesian statistics. As time permits, the series will be concluded by a discussion of an advanced topic such as Direct Coupling Analysis. Since the lecture series does not assume prior exposure to molecular biology, we will start with two introductory lessons that help students to understand some fundamentals and that help them to deal with biological data.

   Leistungsnachweis:

At the end of the lecture series, each student should give a short presentation (English or German) on a small project in which he/she has developed or applied methods of computational biophysics. While the talk as such is not graded, the lecture slides and, if available, code and data are used as basis for the grading. Knowledge in programming languages such as python, R, or C/C++ is advantageous, but not required.
