Bemerkung: |
The European Union (EU) is a successful example of regional integration. This course has a focus on the EU’s international and economic dimensions. It reveals the importance of developments of international financial and market dynamics, such as the importance of monetary and trade integration, as well as regional and global cooperation. Topics include different steps of global and regional integration, aspects of comparative advantage, as well as the importance of international market dynamics for foreign relations. In this regard, students learn about different cases of regional integration more generally and will discuss the example of the EU more particularly. This includes the institutional and administrative structures of the EU, with special attention to its economic and foreign relations. In this context, the course deals also with questions of the EU’s role in global economic development in a comparative perspective. This allows identifying different patterns of the EU’s foreign relations globally and the entangled role of economic, social and environmental aspects. Although the working language of the course is English, term papers can of course be submitted also in German. |
