This course focuses on contemporary (circa the last 100 years) phonetic variation, particularly in vowels, in Englishes and creoles throughout the Pacific, including in the west coast of the USA (California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska), Canada, Hawaiʻi, Australia, and New Zealand, as well as other areas throughout the Pacific. The course is primarily a survey course, but we will also undertake some hands-on phonetic research on one or more of the target varieties. |
