In this seminar we will critically engage with video games from various perspectives in American Studies. Throughout the semester, we will read scholarship about video games; we will analyze video games; we will critically debate video games; we will write short essays about video games; and, if possible, we will play video games. In addition, we will also look at many facets of video game culture from social media to the gamification of everyday life. Whether you are passionate about video games or are merely curious about a phenomenon you have little experience with, everyone is welcome to participate.
