The importance of using literary works, such as prose, poetry and drama, in language classrooms has emerged in the last few decades. Literature in the EFL classroom provides an authentic experience of the target language. Also, it can be beneficial since students may rarely use English in their everyday life. By reading authentic texts, they learn how to use the language for real-life purposes. How do we approach literature in the foreign language classroom and train students’ literary competences? Further, how do we assess and evaluate these competences in a modern and innovative way?
In this course, we will have a closer look on how to teach and assess learner’s literary competence.
