This course focuses on a fruitful interdisciplinary field of linguistic research: the exploration of the interpersonal aspects of language in use. It discusses new theoretical approaches and empirical studies, which look at the dynamics of relationships between people and investigate how those relationships are negotiated in interaction. Thus, the course intends to show how language choices affect and are affected by the people's understanding of their relationships, their social environments and their culture. |
