In this seminar we will be defining culture and looking at ways of sensitizing learners to the many different cultures in the Anglophone world. What do learners need to know about cultures? How can we make culture the basis for our teaching? What sort of task-based activities best lend themselves to the teaching of culture? How can it become a significant part of our teaching syllabus? How can we make our students’ “cultural learners”? How can modern media help our learners to be culturally aware? How can we make full use of our learners’ own different cultural backgrounds? How can we help learners cope with cultures in flux, as broadly represented by the concept of Transculturality? These and many other exciting topics will be examined and discussed in this seminar.
