Course description:
In this class we will examine recent events in China from a sociological perspective. For each session participants will be invited to choose a social phenomenon that has made to the top stories in the Chinese news (e.g. reports from the sphere of family life, educational system, interpersonal relations, etc.) and analyze it as a product of inherent social processes or social activities, i.e. as a result of social developments, not as an independent event. In the final session, one of the topics has to be presented in a 8-10 minute TED talk format in a well-prepared manner. This course aims to stimulate students’ structural thinking and confidence in delivering own ideas. Grading is based on class participation and TED talk presentation at the end of the final session. |
