Minorities in Japan
In the part “Social Content Analysis using official and media sources” we will learn about minorities in Japan, as for example Zainichi Koreans, Ainu, Nikkeijin and further minorities. Some objectives of this course will be:
- to learn about sociological issues some minorities have been facing in Japan
- to show how to look for and find sources in multiple languages
- to provide you with information and training to better structure your papers and thesis
To make sure that everybody is having fun while learning, the class will be held in an interactive way. Please note that in contrast to An Huy Tran's part of the module, this part will be held exclusively online.

Assignment
For this whole module, you only need to hand in ONE final assignment.
You are expected to write a quasi-literature review (12-15 pages) in which you discuss, argue, and reflect upon one topic we have touched upon in our sessions. You will be expected to hold presentations in our module, and you will have short assignments to turn in via Moodle - but not every week. So, keep calm and relax and bring your good mood to every session.
For our module the grade is composed as follows: 70% your final assignment, 20% your presentations, and 10% your in-class participation.
We are looking forward to having interesting academic discussions with you. |
