This course will give an introduction to feminist poetry over the last half century. Reading and analyzing texts from colonial times to setup the foundation for twentieth and twenty-first century feminist poetry, we will try to get an overview of important movements and authors. To this purpose, we will work with secondary sources that will help shape our understanding of 1) poetry and 2) feminism in general, all the while educating and expanding our understanding of the contexts in which our primary texts develop(ed) and exist(ed). Finally, we will consider the social impact of poetry, considering specifically present-day activist poets. |
