In this class we will discuss a variety of North American literary texts pertaining to LGBTQ issues, including Willa Cather’s short story “Paul’s Case” (1905), Allen Ginsberg’s poem “A Supermarket in California” (1956), Tony Kushner’s play Angels in America (1991/1992), and Marnie Woodrow’s novel Spelling Mississippi (2002). While thematically unified, this class will particularly focus on key competences in literary and cultural studies, including Information literacy (how to access secondary literature), Reading (how to use secondary literature), Inquiry & Analysis (how to analyze literary texts), and Written Communication (how to present your discussion in the shape of a term paper). For one section of this class we will collaborate with students from our Aurora partner university Rovira i Virgili to improve your Teamwork and Intercultural competences as well. Students are cordially invited to the “lange Nacht der Bibliothek” (March 17) to get inspired and earn credits. |
