Ulysses is essential reading for anyone interested in twentieth-century English literature (as well as twentieth-century word literature). This novel is challenging and fascinating in equal measure. It presents readers new to it with a characteristic mixture of bewilderment and mind-boggling fun. We shall attempt a close reading of as much of Ulysses as we can manage.

Requirements: thorough preparation for each session, active participation. As always: think, enjoy (!), annotate, and look things up if necessary. Feel free to bring a lucky potato and a bar of lemon soap (you will learn why). There will be a moodle room; you will receive your moodle password via e-mail.
